Dhishkyaoon (2023) Movie Review: A Gun-Fueled Comedy That Misfires

"Do you ever look at the world and think, 'I wish I had a gun?'" This question, posed by Sanya, the protagonist of the Marathi film "Dhishkyaoon," sets the stage for a hilarious and chaotic journey. Thie film director by Pritam SK Patil boasts a stellar cast, including Prathamesh Parab, Sandeep Pathak, and Ahmed Deshmukh, and promises a laugh-a-minute ride. While the movie delivers on humor, it stumbles with a convoluted plot and uneven pacing, ultimately leaving a mixed impression.

Sanya, a young man infatuated with on-screen heroism, develops an obsession with guns. His father and friends, aware of his dangerous fixation, devise a series of outlandish schemes to keep him away from firearms. However, a misunderstanding snowballs into a series of hilarious misadventures, leading to unexpected consequences.

Dhishkyaoon excels in its comedic moments. The dialogues are witty and sharply written, and the actors deliver them with perfect comedic timing. Prathamesh Parab is particularly impressive as Sanya, capturing his character's naivety and enthusiasm with infectious charm. Sandeep Pathak and Ahmed Deshmukh provide excellent support, adding humor and depth to the narrative.

However, the film's greatest weakness lies in its convoluted plot. The story takes unnecessary detours and suffers from pacing issues, leading to moments of confusion and frustration. Moreover, the central theme of gun obsession gets overshadowed by the slapstick humor, leaving viewers wanting more exploration of this potentially powerful topic.

Despite its flaws, Dhishkyaoon remains an entertaining watch for those seeking a lighthearted comedy. The performances are strong, the humor is effective, and the film's vibrant visuals capture the essence of small-town India. However, viewers looking for a thought-provoking cinematic experience might be left wanting.

Ultimately, Dhishkyaoon is a fun but flawed film. While it delivers on humor and entertainment value, it falls short in terms of narrative coherence and thematic depth. If you're looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy without taking things too seriously, Dhishkyaoon might be worth your time. However, if you're seeking a film with a strong message and well-developed characters, you might want to look elsewhere.
