Enaku Endey Kidaiyaathu (2023) Movie Review: One Last Ride Turns Deadly

Enaku Endey Kidaiyaathu isn't your average cab ride home. Director Vikram Ramesh, throws us into a one-night rollercoaster where a cash-strapped cabbie named Sekar (played by Ramesh himself) picks up a beautiful, inebriated businesswoman named Urvasi (Swayam Siddha). What starts as a tipsy chat turns into a boozy night at her swanky bungalow, only to end with Sekar stumbling upon a dead body the next morning. Talk about a hangover from hell!

This neo-noir thriller keeps you guessing with its constant curveballs. Just when you think you've cracked the case, another layer peels back, revealing deeper secrets and motives. From Urvasi's mysterious husband to the enigmatic "Mastan Bhai" (a chillingly good Shivakumar Raju), the characters dance around deceit, suspicion, and hidden agendas.

Ramesh excels in the dual role of the desperate driver and the reluctant detective. His transformation from a laid-back cabbie to a man hunted and haunted is believable and engaging. Siddha adds depth and vulnerability to Urvasi, making her more than just a femme fatale. The supporting cast, including Karthik Venkatraman who plays a thief, delivers solid performances that flesh out the world of the film.

The film oozes style, with its slick visuals and pulsating soundtrack. The camera lingers on Urvasi's luxurious home, hinting at a life of secrets behind its gleaming facade. The dimly lit corridors and sudden bursts of violence create a palpable sense of suspense.

The film isn't flawless. Some plot points feel rushed, and the motivations of certain characters remain obscure. While the twists keep you hooked, some might feel a tad contrived. Additionally, the film occasionally leans into melodrama, especially in the emotional scenes.

Enaku Endey Kidaiyaathu is a compulsively watchable thriller that throws you headfirst into a world of deceit and desperation. While its twists and turns might not always land perfectly, the performances, atmosphere, and sheer audacity of the plot make it a worthwhile ride. Just be prepared for a few potholes along the way.
