Indian Police Force (2024) Review: Don't Expect Bombshells, Rohit Shetty's Debut Is More Fizzle Than Bang

Rohit Shetty's much-anticipated foray into the world of web series, "Indian Police Force," has finally landed on Amazon Prime Video. But unlike his signature high-octane action flicks, this new offering leaves viewers with a sense of disappointment rather than exhilaration.

The premise is intriguing - a special cell unit led by the stoic Vikram Bakshi (Vivek Oberoi) and the hotheaded Kabir Malik (Sidharth Malhotra) tackles a series of bombings orchestrated by the Indian Mujahideen in the chaotic streets of Delhi. However, the execution falls flat. The narrative meanders, failing to build suspense or delve deep into the complexities of the cat-and-mouse game between cops and terrorists.

Shetty's signature tropes of over-the-top action sequences and cheesy one-liners feel stale in the longer format of a web series. The predictable plot twists and predictable character arcs do little to keep viewers engaged.

While the cast boasts established names like Sidharth Malhotra, Shilpa Shetty Kundra, and Vivek Oberoi, their performances lack the spark needed to elevate the material. Malhotra channels his usual brooding persona, but fails to inject Kabir with the necessary depth or charisma. Shetty, in a rare action role, delivers some impressive stunts, but her character feels underdeveloped. Oberoi, as the seasoned cop, fares slightly better, but even he can't salvage the underwhelming script.

Mayyank Taandon shines as the complex and layered antagonist, portraying both sides of the character's conflicted identity with nuance and intensity. His performance adds depth and intrigue to the story. Sharad Kelkar known for his impactful supporting roles, brings his signature intensity to the character of a loyal officer. Mukesh Rishi lends his veteran experience to the role of the police chief. Vaidehi Parshurami portrays a nuanced character caught between personal loyalty and societal expectations.

The action sequences, though lacking the usual Rohit Shetty flair, are decently executed. However, the cinematography and background score fail to create a gripping atmosphere. The editing, at times choppy and uneven, further disrupts the narrative flow.

"Indian Police Force" is a missed opportunity. It is a disappointing misstep for Rohit Shetty. The series suffers from a predictable plot, weak character development, and an inconsistent tone. While some high-octane action sequences and Shilpa Shetty's performance offer brief glimpses of entertainment, they are not enough to save the series from its overall mediocrity. If you're looking for a gripping cop drama, you're better off searching elsewhere.
