Lakiro (2023) Movie Review: Millennial Love Story that Mirrors Our Reality

Do you ever wonder what happens to a love story when ambition takes the wheel? Lakiro (2023), a Gujarati film directed by Darshan Ashwin Trivedi, explores this very question. It's a poignant tale of Richa and Hrishi, two millennials who fall in love amidst their academic pursuits. But as their careers take off, their relationship starts to unravel, leading to a heartbreaking decision: divorce.

Lakiro is an emotional rollercoaster ride that resonates deeply with the realities of modern couples. The film beautifully captures the struggle between ambition and love, a conflict that is increasingly relevant in today's fast-paced world. We see Richa, a passionate HR professional, striving to make a mark in the corporate world. Hrishi, the ambitious investment banker, prioritizes his career advancement, often neglecting his personal life.

The film's strength lies in its honest portrayal of the complexities of relationships. The characters are not stereotypical; they are flawed and relatable. Richa, initially content with being a homemaker, eventually feels the need to pursue her own dreams. Hrishi, blinded by his ambition, fails to see the emotional impact of his choices on his wife.

The performances by Deeksha Joshi and Raunaq Kamdar are powerful and nuanced. They bring depth and vulnerability to their characters, making their journey all the more engaging. The supporting cast, including Shivani Joshi and Vishal Shah, also delivers strong performances, adding further layers to the narrative.

Cinematographer Tapan Vyas paints a stunning picture of Pune and Bengaluru. The cityscapes add a sense of realism to the story, while the intimate scenes capture the raw emotions of the characters. The music, composed by Parth Bharat Thakkar, is another highlight, adding a melancholic yet hopeful touch to the film.

However, the film is not without its flaws. The pacing can be uneven at times, and some of the plot points feel a bit melodramatic. Additionally, the ending, while satisfying, may leave some viewers wanting more closure.

Overall, Lakiro is a well-made film that tackles a relevant and complex issue with grace and sensitivity. It will resonate with anyone who has ever loved and lost, or who has faced the challenges of balancing career and personal life. While it's not a perfect film, its strengths outweigh its weaknesses, making it a worthwhile watch for anyone looking for an emotional and thought-provoking experience.
