Pippa (2023) Movie Review: Lackluster War Drama

Pippa is a recently released Hindi war drama film on Amazon Prime Video, directed by Raja Krishna Menon and starring Ishaan Khatter, Mrunal Thakur, and Priyanshu Painyuli. The film is based on the true story of Captain Balram Singh Mehta, a tank commander who fought in the Battle of Garibpur during the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

The film begins with the Pakistani army storming a university in Dhaka and gunning down protesting students. This sets the stage for the war that is to follow. Captain Balram Singh Mehta (Ishaan Khatter) is a young and idealistic tank commander who is eager to serve his country. He is joined by his brother, who is also in the army.

The Battle of Garibpur was a crucial turning point in the war, and Pippa does a good job of portraying the intensity and brutality of the battle. The film also shows the emotional toll that the war takes on the soldiers and their families.

Ishaan Khatter gives a good performance as Captain Balram Singh Mehta. He is able to convey the character's idealism, courage, and vulnerability. Mrunal Thakur is also good as Radha, Captain Mehta's love interest. Priyanshu Painyuli is effective as the Pakistani army officer Major Ibrahim Khan.

However, the film has some flaws. The pacing is slow at times, and the plot is somewhat predictable. The film also suffers from some poor CGI effects.

Overall, Pippa is a watchable war drama film. It is well-acted and has some well-staged war sequences. However, the film is let down by its slow pacing and predictable plot.

What I liked about the film:

  • The performances of the lead actors, especially Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur.

  • The realistic portrayal of the Battle of Garibpur.

  • The film's emotional impact.

  • The poor CGI effects.

Who should watch the film:

  • Fans of war dramas.

  • Fans of Ishaan Khatter and Mrunal Thakur.

  • People who are interested in learning more about the Indo-Pakistani War of 1971.

Who should avoid the film:

  • People who are looking for a film with a lot of action and adventure.

  • People who are easily offended by graphic violence.
